1. Draw the forest footprint
Cut a low, irregular base with softly beveled edges. The footprint, not the placement of individual trunks, defines the woods during play; agree on that before the game.
2. Keep the trunks removable
Mount trees on small separate bases and place them loosely on the footprint. Leave open space for a formed unit or several bases to stand inside.
3. Finish the ground
Paint the footprint earth brown and add leaves, flock, or undergrowth sparingly. Match the removable tree bases to the same ground colors.
4. Run a play test
Move units into the woods, lift trees out of their way, and check sight lines using the agreed rules. Low edges prevent figures from tipping.
