Color Mixing
Color Mixing
I've been allotting a bit of time to painting Russian Cossacks from the era of 1806-1812 and have been mixing my own colors—a skill I've improved over the years. Although I don't always achieve the exact color envisioned, I often land fairly close. Recently, while painting a Cossack's upper garment, I aimed for a slightly violet hue. The result wasn't precisely what I had in mind, but it was sufficiently close. By adjusting the proportions of red and blue, and lightening the mix with a drop of white, I created a satisfactory shade for the figure, as shown in the bottom photo. While it wasn't the initial hue I intended, I think it complemented the Cossack well.
