Yeah, I'm Slacking Off

Post by Gene »

I haven't been very active on this board lately due to other commitments, but I'm hoping to change that before it becomes a bad habit.

Currently, I'm collaborating with three other gamers on the development of a percentile-based World War II miniature game. It's still in its early stages, so I'll refrain from divulging too many details at this time. However, one aspect I'm particularly keen on retaining is the command-and-control (CnC) system I devised last year while working on another WW2 game. Although I wasn't able to implement it then, I'm confident it will find a home in our current project.

The CnC system is quite straightforward. Each leader is assigned a Command Rating (CR), ranging from 1 to 12. For instance, a battalion commander might have an CR of 7, while his company commanders are rated at 5, and platoon leaders at 3. With four companies under his command, the battalion commander's available Command Points (CP) are determined by subtracting the number of companies from his CR. These CPs are then allocated to issue orders to the various units.

For example, if the battalion commander has 7 CPs and needs 4 to maintain his companies, he has 3 CPs left to distribute. He could give 3 orders to 1 company, or 1 order to 3 companies, or distribute them in any other combination. The success of these orders is contingent upon modifiers that affect the percentile result, such as line-of-sight distance from the commander.

Aside from the WW2 game, I'm also juggling several other projects simultaneously (including medical appointments), which inevitably limits my availability for other activities, like posting on this board. I genuinely appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as I continue with these commitments.

Thank you!
