Re: New Application to Test Combat Mechanics

As I built the app, there were some "oops" along the way. I rushed the previously "nearly" finished app and got a bunch of errors for my troubles. Hence the version 10 of the application. I think it's okay now. Let me know if there are any problems with it.

New Application to Test Combat Mechanics

I had a slew of individuals ask for a self-contained application. I'm now calling it the Combat Simulator. I've turned the formerly simple application into a more involved application, with more options. I had actually been working on this app for some time, I just never finished it. I thank you al...

More Questions...

After the post, "To Hit or Not to Hit?" I received numerous follow-up questions, many through chats and a few via email. However, I make it a point not to respond to individual queries directly, as this would consume an excessive amount of time managing chats and emails. Instead, I always...

Re: To Hit or Not to Hit?

In emails, I got asked, by a few people, if the Python app for testing firing results will be part of the game. I'm answering them here. No. The app will not be part of the table-top game. The app's only purpose is to test the results of firing by various units and at 3 different distances. One tes...

Yards or Inches?

In play testing the firing mechanics, we've been using inches. As in 1 inch = 50 yards. However, a few of the play testers suggested using yards, because they said it gave them a more pronounced ambience of the Napoleonic era. The option was put to a vote and surprisingly a few of the others also p...

Re: To Hit or Not to Hit?

We've been using a Python based application to help us in testing the firing mechanics of Ordre Mixte: Napoleon's Gambit . I wrote the application after a bunch of learning and cursing. Once I got the app where I could use it, I gave it out to the play testers for them to try. So far, each person h...

To Hit or Not to Hit?

One of the persistent challenges in designing historically oriented wargames is balancing hit and damage results. This balance is critical; if weapons are too powerful or too weak, the game’s playability and historical accuracy can be compromised. Striking the right balance is an iterative process,...

Two or Three Rank Deep?

Recently we had an in-depth discussion concerning the Napoleonic Era's use of infantry and cavalry formations. One of the most prominent discussions was whether a 2 rank or 3 rank infantry line formation was better. As I've considered this very thing for some time now, I thought I would weigh in wi...

IMPETUS 2nd Edition

Impetus the miniatures game released by Dadi and Piombo Publishing has been around for a few years (2017). The second edition of Impetus made its debut in 2020. The game was designed by Lorenzo Sartori, an Italian journalist and sometimes game designer. Some people swear by this game, but first wha...

Update on Ordre Mixte: Napoleon's Gambit

Things are moving along smoothly even if the combat section isn't as fully tested as I wanted it to be. As the songs says, "We can't always get what we want." The core (basic) rules should be finished sometime in January (yes, this January 2025). The advanced rules and optional rules will...
